What's in them Biscuits ?

Band History:

This band was initially formed for the 2012 “HarvestJam Festival” as a cover band performing mainly bluegrass songs past and present. Our band name came about around a sunday morning ritual over at the ‘Fish’ house, whereby biscuits were baked and served up picnic style. Hence the skillet and tablecloth motif. Well, to continue the play on words, The faces of current members were baked into recipe. Names were associated to the member in the same manner. “Buttermilk” Dan the founder, as his style is smooth like butter, “Sourdough” Mike, because he’s alway so cheery, and “Buckwheat” Tim, as he is the mischievous one.

Buttermilk Biscuit (a.k.a. Dan Fish): Vocal, Founder and Guitar.

Dan hails from Fort Crook in Northwest S. Dakota. You could almost throw a rock to Montana and N. Dakota from a hill I recall near the Ranch. They called me Buttermilk because of my favorite Food, "Buttermilk Biscuits' Don't go believe'n any old story you hear, It’s not about my hair. I worked a ranch, fished, slept under the stars, played a guitar, sang cows and riders to sleep till I gotta itch to see this great land and joined the Air Force.

I got out and was dumped out here with a Hundred bucks and I sang to make a living. Did a lot of country till I started in on Bluegrass and I ain't been the same since. I'd rather sing then eat but you wouldn't know that to look at me.

I met Sourdough in the Air Force and found he had the same problem as me 'cept he can't sing and barely talks. Ever since I started at the ranch, I am eat'n better since we all got together... Don't tell no one..but you wouldn't have to pay me to sing but it sure helps to keep the weight on!

We look forward to playing fer Ya!

Buckwheat Biscuit (a.k.a.Tim Wankel):  Vocal, Multi-instrumentalist

Tim was born and raised in a central North Dakotan town with no paved roads where the “Church to Bar” ratio favored the churches, He has paid his dues singing’ in churches before his rebellious streak began. Bought a bass guitar in the mid 70’s and joined a garage band playing the Country/50’s genre. When the 80’s began, joined a touring rock trio, forsaking the 9-5 job and going for broke “literally” until a strong dose of reality says, “You gotta eat, and a little health insurance ain’t a bad idea”.

Tim attended a bluegrass festival with some of his friends. The bug caught on like gravy to biscuits, bought some instruments of the genre, and started to go the public jams, where he met Dan and Mike. He brings everything to the table from the murderous ballads to gospel songs to the group. Tim plays mandolin, banjo, guitar, bass and occasionally fiddle. In short Tim discovered bluegrass music in 2011.

Sourdough Biscuit (a.k.a. Mike Steele):  Bass and Grinnin’.

You know, Its funny how life treats your desire for making music against the need for eating and raising a family. Never the less, here we are on the Biscuit Boy road to heart filled, foot stomp'n fun-- What a great journey. I'm pretty sure when I earned the nickname of Sourdough; Buckwheat and Buttermilk weren't thinking what I was think'n. There nothing more out of the extraordinary mundane then to be a Bass player with the unique flavor of a Sourdough Biscuit. I get to bring just the optimum character to make a song be as great as we thought it would be when we chose to perform it...wow!

So the next time you see that sly little grin on my face, you know that we reached the goal we set out to achieve!

Cornbread Biscuit (a.k.a. Syd Nesbitt):  Banjo and Foolin’.

The newest member of the Biscuit Boys. We'll utilize 'Cornbread' whenever we book a quartet show. Syd comes to us with decades of traditional bluegrass experience. He will remind you of 'Stringbean' from the Hee Haw show. Beware of his quick wit. Syd is also now available for afternoon shows.

Syd has been a longtime jammer often found at the Homestead Pickin' Parlor in south Minneapolis.
